--- title: About me --- Hey 👋, my name is Gabriel. I'm a Brazilian software engineer, researcher, and activist. Welcome to my little cozy web corner! ## Interests I'm interested in free/open-source software, reproductibility, distributed systems, software engineering, and functional programming. I've been into computers, science and math since I was little. I love Linux, Free Software, CLI programs, and design. Outside of computing, I'm a huge fan of space and science fiction genres (games, books, artwork). I love animals, the planet, and the people who live in it. ## Work and Research I like working on the parts of software development that help make people happier and more productive: reliable environments, reproducible systems, declarative infrastructure, CI/CD, developer experience, and communities where people can learn and contribute. I currently work full-time at [Magalu Cloud](https://magalu.cloud), an innovative 100% Brazilian public cloud, as part of the team that handles underlying virtualization, packaging, and deployment orchestration. I'm also working towards a Computer Science M.Sc. degree at the [University of São Paulo](https://usp.br)'s [Institute of Mathematics and Computer Sciences](https://icmc.usp.br/en/), under the [Software Engineering Lab](http://www.labes.icmc.usp.br). My [current research](/publications) is around software sustainability in open-source ecosystems. ## Communities I help lead [GELOS](https://gelos.club), the free/open-source software group I co-founded at ICMC-USP. I mentor our members, help build our [infrastructure and workflows](https://github.com/gelos-icmc/monorepo), organize study groups, and make sure people can work together happily. I'm also part of and occasionally contribute to the [São Carlos Hackerspace](https://github.com/sancahs) and [São Carlos Python Group](https://github.com/grupy-sanca/).
