Kathryn BaldaufandGitHub 55f1e4fdf4 Create ImageResource conforming to ManagedResource (#1619)
- Closes #1625.
- For now, the ImageResource compliance happens
  at the CLI level. We will work on pushing that into or

Kathryn BaldaufandGitHub 046884df37 Use ManagedResource for volumes in CLI commands (#1607)
## Type of Change
- [x] New feature

## Motivation and Context
Related to https://github.com/apple/container/issues/1404.

This PR adds the initial work to have volume resources conform to
ManagedResource, in alignment with other resources such as networks (see
[here](https://github.com/apple/container/pull/1421)). Further work is
necessary to move the use of `VolumeResource` down to the APIServer (in
the VolumesService) and in the volume client. Volumes do not currently
have any plugin or runtime state, so that information is not included in
the `VolumeResource`, but could be added later if needed.

## Type of Change
- [x] New feature

## Motivation and Context
When developing, there are times when I want to run a specific set of
CLI tests. This PR allows users to set what integration tests they want
to run by setting the makefile variable `INTEGRATION_TEST_SUITES`.

Example usage:
```
Kathryn BaldaufandGitHub 8261a27ed0 Add shmSize to management flag's init (#1603)
## Type of Change
- [x] Bug fix
## Motivation and Context
Ensure all fields are initialized in the management flags' init
function. Without this change, if someone calls init() on this set of
flags, they will get an error like
```
Can't read a value from a parsable argument definition.

This error indicates that a property declared with an `@Argument`,
`@Option`, `@Flag`, or `@OptionGroup` property wrapper was neither
initialized to a value nor decoded from command-line arguments.

To get a valid value, either call one of the static parsing methods
(`parse`, `parseAsRoot`, or `main`) or define an initializer that
initializes _every_ property of your parsable type.
```
Kathryn BaldaufandGitHub 25ab5934e4 Support use of custom app root with system config in CLI commands (#1600)
## Type of Change
- [x] Bug fix
## Motivation and Context
Many CLI commands need to reference the system configurations for
`container`. Previously, CLI commands would try to load the system
configurations from the default application root location, regardless of
if `container` had been started with a custom application root location.
This PR fixes that issue by having each CLI command ping the APIServer's
health check service to get the correct app root path.
Closes https://github.com/apple/container/issues/1576
Kathryn BaldaufandGitHub e9891b3cfe Allow macOS 15 to list and delete networks (#1464)
- A recent change moved the list and delete
  network XPC calls within an availability check,
  making them only available on macOS 26.
  However, there are some code flows that rely
  on being able to call `list` on the NetworksService,
  including anything that uses `networkClient.builtin`.
- `container` does not officially support macOS 15
  and as a result we do not have GitHub action runners
  for validation on macOS 15. That said, we try to avoid
  breaking compatibility on macOS 15 as much as
  possible.
Kathryn BaldaufandGitHub 10df89e0e6 Remove XPC timeout based on SIGTERM timeout in container stop (#1387)
`container stop` has an option `-t` for `Seconds to wait before killing
the containers` (see
[here](https://github.com/apple/container/blob/ce7736105747f48debb37ca1999b562b4bfae23c/Sources/ContainerCommands/Container/ContainerStop.swift#L39)).
This timeout is used to determine when the SandboxService should stop
waiting for the container to gracefully exit with `SIGTERM` (or another
provided signal) and send `SIGKILL`.
Today, we were setting the `SandboxService.stop` XPC call's timeout to
the value provided to `container stop -t` plus 1 second. This is
problematic in cases where the code flow to send SIGKILL to the
container then forcefully stop the VM does not complete within one
second of the SIGTERM timeout being hit. In those cases, we will return
that the XPC stop call failed due to hitting the timeout. In some cases
this may happen even though the container and VM have both been
successfully stopped.
This PR removes that XPC timeout for `SandboxService.stop` entirely. We
cannot reliably determine in the SandboxClient, which may be used by
third party runtime plugins to support additional container runtimes,
how long it may take for SIGKILL to kill the container and stop related
resources.
- [x] Breaking change
## Motivation and Context
We want to be able to support using multiple network plugins during
`container`'s lifetime. This additionally means needing to pick an
interface strategy to interpret a network attachment based on what
network plugin was used to create that attachment. This PR will
potentially replace https://github.com/apple/container/pull/1081.
Followups:
Kathryn BaldaufandGitHub 9032d73d07 Change behavior of the default arguments in the plugin config (#1063)
## Type of Change
- [x] New feature
- [x] Breaking change
## Motivation and Context
This PR changes the behavior of the `defaultArguments` field in the
service plugin config. Previously, `defaultArguments` was functioning as
a way to indicate how to start a plugin in the event that the plugin is
loaded at boot (such as for the `container-core-images plugin`).
However, we now follow a convention where all plugins have a "start"
command that is used when launching the plugin, so this
`defaultArguments` field wasn't really providing much. Instead, there
are use cases where we may want to set default values to pass to a
plugin. This PR repurposes the `defaultArguments` field for those use
cases.
As an example use case, there are scenarios where someone may want to
use the AllocationOnlyVmnetNetwork even when running on macOS 26+. This
PR adds the ability to pass in a command line option to the vmnet
network plugin to specify that request. Combined with the
`defaultArguments` plugin config change, a user may choose to set that
field to ["--variant", "allocationOnly"] in the
`container-network-vmnet-config.json` to use AllocationOnlyVmnetNetwork
by default for all networks.
Kathryn BaldaufandGitHub d6f052d206 Update license header on all files to include the current year (#1024)
## Motivation and Context
Now that we're in 2026, we need to update the license headers on all the
files. Unfortunately, Hawkeye doesn't have an attribute for the current
year to help us avoid this in the future. Instead, I had to work around
this by doing the following:
1. Update licenserc.toml with:
     ```
      [properties]
       ... (other properties)
       currentYear = "2026"
     ```
2. Update scripts/license-header.txt with
    ```
Copyright ©{{ " " }}{%- set created = attrs.git_file_created_year or
attrs.disk_file_created_year -%}{%- set modified = props["currentYear"]
-%}{%- if created != modified -%} {{created}}-{{modified}}{%- else
-%}{{created}}{%- endif -%}{{ " " }}{{ props["copyrightOwner"] }}.
    ```
Then I removed these two changes before committing. After this PR is
merged, all files will have recently had git updates, so the existing
code for setting the modified year should work as intended.
Kathryn BaldaufandGitHub 23b058c53c Remove StandardErrorPath and StandardOutPath from launchd plists (#742)
## Type of Change
- [x] Bug fix
## Motivation and Context
We setup logging for the services in `container` using OSLog. See
[here](https://github.com/apple/container/blob/73709232d2705b7008b7380fe90a373059b6074a/Sources/Helpers/APIServer/APIServer.swift#L31).
This makes it unnecessary to redirect stderr and stdio for these
services. Additionally, there are some cases where failure to open or
write to the path given for StandardErrorPath or StandardOutPath in a
service's plist could result in a failure to start a service through
`launchctl`.
## Type of Change
- [x] Bug fix
- [ ] New feature
- [ ] Breaking change
- [ ] Documentation update
## Motivation and Context
Fixes https://github.com/apple/container/issues/588. This PR changes the
archiver compression file enumeration to use the
[enumerator(atPath:)](https://developer.apple.com/documentation/foundation/filemanager/enumerator(atpath:))
version. This version returns relative paths instead of full file paths
from the filesystem. /tmp is symlinked to /private/tmp and some swift
packages will handle that path differently. While a call to Foundation's
`URL.resolvingSymlinksInPath()` will return "/tmp", a call to
`FileManager.enumerator(at:)` will return "/private/tmp". This
difference causes a container image build to fail when the user is using
a path under /tmp or other special case paths as the context directory.
## Type of Change
## Description
Allow kernel set with tar to use relative paths to tar file. Fixes
https://github.com/apple/container/issues/573.
## Motivation and Context
`absoluteString` will prefix a scheme to the file path that looks like
Kathryn BaldaufandGitHub 157bacf6a4 Make test suites run sequentially with respect to other test suites (#200)
Right now swift testing does not have finer grain test parallelization
controls. As a result our easy options are either to have ALL tests in
ALL test suites run sequentially or have tests within a given test suite
run sequentially while other test suites are run at the same time.
This has been problematic for our CI since we opted for the second
option above, where, for examples, the tests in the builder test suite
run sequentially, but the builder test suite runs at the same time as
the container run test suite. When this happens, a lot of different
tests try to pull the necessary images for testing at the same time,
causing some tests to timeout.
These should be up to users to maintain, as trying to add everyones
When we were setting up the repos, we needed these environment variables
for the GitHub Actions CI to be able to run the tests. Now that the
images are public, these can be removed.
Kathryn BaldaufandGitHub 3838be5207 Update protos and add builder shim version in Package.swift (#176)
This PR updates the protos to match the recent changes in
https://github.com/apple/container-builder-shim/pull/15.
This PR additionally adds the builder shim version as a variable in
Package.swift. This allows us to be consistent with the builder tag used
for the builder shim image and when building protobuf files.
Kathryn BaldaufandGitHub 5f7fe489a6 Add issue templates for bugs and features (#152)
I would love feedback on how people feel about these issue templates, if
there should be more or less templates, or if there are any fields that
people think we should add.
You can see an example of how to use these by testing opening an issue
on my fork [here](https://github.com/katiewasnothere/container/issues).
Kathryn BaldaufandGitHub eeddf6f7e7 Publish docs from main (#67)
We eventually only want to support building docs from release branches
and tags, however, while we're working to initially set up the docs, we
may have some churn. So we want to be able to publish from main during
that churn.
